It’s not about ships.

sneakyfeets:

Voltron S7 was unbelievably vile to LGBT+ fans of the show, and while a lot of people will casually dismiss it due to the toxic ship wars this fandom has perpetrated, it is painfully important to look at the context of what just happened in this show.

Voltron has murdered every singly gay character that has appeared on the show. The one that came back from death has been horrifically brutalized for the entirety of the series.

Ezra and Zethrid were villains that were suddenly introduced as being a lesbian couple with nothing previous to indicate it, and killed less than 20 minutes later.

Adam
was a plot device to show Shiro was gay, and instead of even doing the
bare minimum of a respectful death for a gay plot device, we see him
watch every person around him die horribly before being engulfed and
screaming in pain and horror before he’s blown out of existence.

So yes, Shiro is a strong, disabled gay Asian man and by himself that’s great rep. But he is also tortured beyond belief. He is kidnapped, amputated, brainwashed, electrocuted, gored, killed, cloned, forced to hurt the people he loves – Shiro is just brutalized over and over and over and it is so intensely foul to have the heads sit back and watch people celebrate them pre-S7 without realizing how horrifically they’re going to be and have been treating LGBT characters.

It has nothing to do with ships or overhyping Adam and Shiro’s reunion. All of these things separately are not overwhelming. But together, they paint a vile, vile picture and a heartbreaking scene for LGBT+ who were directly encouraged by the staff who did a victorious press lap over Gay Shiro, to see ourselves reduced to graves and torture victims.
