Who wanna bet as soon as the Wakandan boarders are open Tony Stark is first in line asking for a visa and T’Challa is all well this is awkward because he’s hiding Team Cap and stuff but he can’t really give the international community an excuse to not let Tony in when he was, like, on his side during the whole Civil War debate in the UN. So he just sighs heavily and makes sure he can hide Team Cap before agreeing to let him in.

But the whole Cap thing turns out to be like the least of his worries because Tony’s far more interested in the Wakandan technology. And, of course, for the media Tony’s putting up an unimpressed facade, trying to keep his arrogant public image alive but then he gets there and he really could care less about the media because oh my god look at this and he’s not jealous or competitive he’s just like a little kid in Disneyland walking around with awe and having the freaking time of his life.

And when he finally gets to visit Shuri’s lab, she’s totally expecting him to be a dick about it but he’s actually half-way through adopting her in his head (though thank you very much but nope she’s good), he asks if he can bring up a list of talented students who he’s founding in MIT to see her advancements and learn from her and ‘have you ever thought about teaching because you can teach this kids more than anyone I know’ and then starts by introducing his ‘intern’ who happens to be a scrawny white boy who stutters a lot at first but then they hit it off like so well to the point where he shares his identity because the boy sucks at keeping secrets and she’s too damn smart and would’ve figured it out anyway and she takes one look at his spidey suit and starts ugly-laughing and ‘no, Peter, no you can’t wear this’ so she promises when he comes back to visit she’ll put something much better for him ‘but don’t tell Stark’ and he promises to bring MJ along next time because she’s going to love her

I forgot where this post was going but basically at some point Tony’s sitting in the middle of the city almost to the brink of tears because this is the first glimpse he’s gotten of a wonderful, peaceful and technological future world he’s dreamed of time and time again and who freaking cares if he’s not the one that designed it? It’s finally here and he will protect it with his life if he has to. Meanwhile, T’Challa’s standing behind him and pinching the bridge of his nose like: “jeez, man, you promised to be cool, just try to keep it together.”

ok but this idea that tony has a massive ego (ie doesnt listen to anyone, thinks hes always right) or not a team player, when in fact, he’s the one hero who’s shown to follow other peoples leads and ask for input, especially in infinity war- tony asking peter specifically if he had any ideas to rescue strange from ebony maw, because tony remembers peter had a good idea with the AT-AT walker reference and taking down giant man in CACW, and on Titan, tony’s overall plan to take down Thanos is his base idea but he obviously listened to Quill with details because Quill knew the GotG member’s powers, and when tony confronted strange on the donut ship about taking the fight to Thanos it wasn’t about ego, this was strange who only cared about protecting the time stone vs Tony who was seeing the bigger picture because he had Thanos in head head since the battle of NY & was standing his ground to protect Earth & the whole damn universe- tony is smart & that means he respects other peoples ideas especially ones that are logical, and he will ask for input from people who’ve proven to have good ideas age or experience be damned… team player? all that and more, he shows all the abilities of team leader

I second all of the above, but also wanted to add that I really liked how they had Tony send Peter home with the parachute. Sure, it didn’t work, because of reasons, but the intent was that Peter not be there.  As someone who had issues with how Tony was written in SMH and CACW regarding Peter, I really appreciated that.  Honestly, Tony was incredibly well written in this movie

Sabre couldn’t have said it better. I felt like SMH Tony was very out of character and the Russo brothers did their best to dig him out of the hole that SMH put him in.

agree to disagree- i felt tony in SMHC was honestly really well done

tony’s never been a dad before, he’s had a terrible relationship with his own so he’s making this up as he goes, and theres the additional factor that he is in fact, NOT peter’s legal guardian- he’s trying his best to keep a kid who runs around in PJs safe, but also not overstep his bounds, on top of the fact that tony does in fact, have his own life and a company to work for.

everything about Tony in SMHC is how parents (or parent figures) arent perfect people, but they try their best to keep you safe anyways, and sometimes they’re right and sometimes it backfires, but the important thing is to learn from every incident & learning to respect your kid as an individual (which is what lots of parents have a hard time grasping).

Tony provides a suit thats provides better protection from the guns and cars Peter puts himself in front of, and Peter (and Ned) deliberately hack the safety protocols Tony’s put into the suit (stuff like instant kill mode, which Tony obvs put under lock and key, but would be necessary for shit like alien invasions down the line). Tony listens to every message Peter sends & when Peter tells Tony about the weapons and Toomes, Tony takes him seriously, says he’ll look into it, and hits up the FBI to handle it. Sure Tony didn’t tell Peter every single update on something that lead to an incident involving federal agents, but he had no idea how much initiative or trouble Peter COULD get into. (also the fact that again, Tony’s never had a kid, goes to show he underestimates the rebelliousness of teenage years, the fact he was in MIT with college kids when he was Peter’s age means Tony has no barometer for normal high schoolers behaviors anyways, and esp not super-powered high schoolers)

The moment where Tony confronts Peter after the ferry was amazing- this is the moment where the idea of personal responsibility is verbalized, an important concept for everyone, but especially for heroes. Peter realizes Tony isnt a flippant adult. When Tony says he’ll take care of things, he means, it, Tony takes Peter seriously & listens to him & has always listened to him. This is the moment where Tony verbalizes the weight of the innocent lives Peter shoulders when he dons a mask, but also the personal responsibility he feels over Peter. Taking away the suit was pretty much like a parent taking the car away from a teen who drove recklessly, which is a reasonable move, but unlike dangerous driving, Peter still feels the call to herosim & fights Toomes anyways.

By the end of the movie Tony & Peter know each other better and understand what kind of person the other is- Peter knowing that Tony feels responsible for him but also respects him & his commitment to being a hero (even worthy enough to be an avenger) and Tony fully understanding the commitment Peter feels in doing the right thing and that he can’t stop Peter because Peter is his own person. Tony can only help guide Peter & make things safer for him thru tech, and even being thrown a curveball because Peter realizes that growing up fast & taking on adult responsibilities (which is what Peter wanted to do at the start) isnt as amazing as its made out to be for lots of young kids.

SMHC is a coming of age story for Peter, and how he’s trying to balance his teenage years with heroic responsibility, but also a story about Tony literally learning how to be a dad (figure). Tony and Peter act as foils, learning and growing from each other & all of that leads right into IW where we see that growth firmly established (ie. Tony letting Peter help on the ground in NY because Tony knows he’s struggling and needs the help, but making Peter go home when they start going off planet)

every time Andrew Minyard says to Neil Josten “I hate you” he is saying “I hate how vulnerable you make me, I hate that you make me weak. It scares me that I never even noticed you laying siege on my boundaries, until one day, I loved you so bad I felt like the pain of it would stop my heart. I love you so bad it feels like you’ve stomped on my lungs, you were the tiny needle hole, slowly letting all the air out, until one day I looked into your wild eyes and my lungs ruptured. I love you so bad I would command the deserts salty with seawater, I love you so bad I would curve the mountains into valleys with my own two hands, I love you so bad I would tell the earth to defy gravity and cease rotating if you asked me to. I love you so bad I would coerce ice and fire to breath together if it was what you wanted, I love you so bad that I hate you.”

strange being gentle with tony cause he knows how hard tony is gonna go on himself when half the universe dies cause he failed to save them

I have this ominous feeling that the apology in Strange’s voice is for what he knows Tony is going to have to go through to save everyone. Like… I’m sorry I’m making you do this. I’m sorry for how you’re going to blame yourself. But I’m also sorry for how my letting making you live is going to hurt you so so badly in the end. I’m sorry for how much worse this is going to hurt you. I’m sorry for not just letting you die… There was no other way.

honestly nora saying andreil never get married is so dumb theres no way in hell andrew overprotective possessive bastard minyard wouldnt do anything to assure that, when neil inevitably lands himself in the hospital playing stickball, he can stand by neil and scare everyone attending to him to death. also theyre practical ppl who would want the benefits of being married. plus they may not be romantic but u Kno they both enjoy a good promise and legal marriage is the Ultimate Promise

YOU’RE RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD SAY IT

like listen,, I get why it would be easy to look at people who have this young, intensely personal, externally standoffish, slow-growing relationship and assume that love and marriage aren’t going to stick to that kind of material

but being difficult and unorthodox doesn’t = rejecting devotion and symbolism, the things that keep them sure-footed and together from book 1

like certainly they love each other without having to prove it, but do you think the boys who exchange keys and armbands, who save the spot next to them on the couch or open up the driver’s seat as grand trusting gestures, wouldn’t want a paper that says ‘this is for good, this is how much I want this, it’s scary that we are going to live long enough to change and fade, but this promise will not

their relationship has always been rooted in action, they’re extremely tactile, they say exactly what they want out loud because they trust nothing more than the explicitness of language

of course they start to understand the way love looks and feels too, they recognize forever because the world keeps turning around them and they don’t even notice, which wouldn’t be happening if they were apart

but they still like to be able to see what they can feel, just to be sure. Just so they know they’re not imagining it. Their marriage certificate is grafted over the parts of them that were trained to expect betrayal and loss.

and you’re exactly right, they (literally) live for promises and hard work and having each other’s backs, marriage would look gorgeous on them

like their lives are one life! their home is each other! Neil opens the blinds at 5 am and andrew flips him off every time! their athletic sneakers and heavy boots are lined up together at the door! the house smells like the gritty orange ginger soap that andrew pretends not to like and the sweat from their gear and whatever green smoothie neil had for breakfast! they kick their cats out of the bed so they can have sex, and the sunset pours all over them and they love each other so much that they even say it sometimes!!

plus neil is a terrible terrible disaster with no frame of reference for how much pain is too much pain for like a regular person who wants their bones to be straight and their skin to stay on

like nora are you telling me that andrew wouldn’t want to be dialled UP when his bf is in coma numero 3?? like he wouldn’t show up and clock the doctor with his glittering wedding band?? grow up

Like the concept of promises had me nodding fiercely but by the time I got to the last two lines I was slamming reblog
