I say it every time but we don’t talk enough about the sheer strength of the emotional bond they have. And how that love bleeds through to people outside of the cluster
We see it in Capheus when he greets Rajan like an old friend, calls Felix his brother the moment they first meet. Riley when she tells Diego someone she only met for a few hours that she missed him with such profound sincerity. Lito when he screams “Family, we’re coming!” Because Amanita, the girl who makes Nomi feel beautiful and loved is now his as well. It’s Wolfgang swearing to protect Nomi’s sister and destroy anyone that harms her, because he would die for his family and now his family also includes his clusters loved ones. Will trying to stop sun from breaking her ownheart even more because he can feel the desperation and hurt raging in her, the love that she still holds for a brother who never loved her. The way that they never ever question someone outside of the cluster coming joining them. Dani, Hernando, Bug, Amanita, Mun, and Rajan are all welcome from the moment they arrive because the others can feel that deep rooted trust, that love, and it puts them at ease.
And it’s beautiful because it really brings home the message that love conquers all.

The thing I love about Sense8 is that it gives it’s characters ownership. The characters aren’t just the things that happen to them, they aren’t defined by this, they are so much more.
Riley is not just the girl who tragically lost her husband and tried to climb a mountain to save her child. Riley has a good heart and a beautiful resilient spirit that retains hope and she believes that music brings us together.
Capheus is not just the poverty he grew up in. Capheus loves and believes in the human spirit whole heartedly, gives his smiles freely and would binge watch any and all Jean-Claude movies.
Nomi is not just her struggle with her family accepting she’s trans. Nomi is intelligent and passionate. She understands what it is to be ostracized and fight for what is right and she can’t function without a cup of coffee.
Dani is not just an abuse victim. Dani is overdramatic, brings 5 suitcases to a weekend retreat and refuses to live in fear of small minded men.
Sun is not just her imprisonment. Sun is unyielding loyalty and the pilar of quiet strength that others can lean on. She loves early morning yoga and slurping her food.
Wolfgang is not just the product of decades of abuse and incest. Wolfgang is a protector of people that need it, he is calculating and adaptable, and enjoys clubbing until 7 am just a little too much.
Lito is not just his struggle with being outed. Lito is a workaholic who truly loves his job, a good friend that will cry for you when you can’t cry for yourself, and loves to do flashy tricks when he makes food and cocktails.
The characters are real. They’re human. Even in the midst of war they still find a way to come together and try to be happy for a moment. To remind themselves of their love to one another and to life itself.
