the foxes: allison reynolds // #7 // defensive dealer
“I’m sorry,” Neil said. Allison curled her lip at him in scorn. “Shut
up. No you’re not. You’re not,” she insisted when Neil opened his mouth
to argue. It sounded less like an accusation and more like an order, so
Neil reluctantly subsided. “Have you forgotten who has to paint you back
together every morning? If you’d let them steamroll you yesterday after
all of this,” she flicked her fingers up at her own face, “I would hate
you.”
Allison Reynolds was a bewildering choice for Palmetto State. She looked like a picture perfect princess, but she could brawl with the best of them on the court. She refused to bend to others’ expectations of her, and could be honest to the point of cruelty.
Neil thought about Renee’s bruised knuckles, Dan’s fierce spirit, and Allison holding her ground on the court a week after Seth’s death. […] He felt compelled to say, “Some of the strongest people I’ve known are women.”
Allison Reynolds was a bewildering choice for Palmetto State. She looked like a picture-perfect princess, but she could brawl with the best of them on the court.
Allison Reynolds learns to sew like a Boss because even though, realistically, she knows she’ll always be well off, there’s always that underlying fear that her parents will somehow freeze her accounts until she gives in
And she will NEVER give in
But she still wants to look million dollar
Matthew Boyd wears those gel bracelets and the girls’ spare hair ties around his wrists because whenever he feels that undeniable itch he likes to pluck them againsts his skin as a reminder
It becomes a nervous habit whenever he’s relatively still and alone because there’s ALWAYS an itch but especially when his mind isn’t distracted by movement and talk and his family
Matt wears his track marks like a tapestry, a history of who he was and who he has grown into
Aaron Minyard wears long sleeves because something inside him curls up and screams whenever he sees that look on anyone’s face
That look that reminds him that he came from trash no matter what grows from the garbage heap
Renee Walker is not ashamed of her scars and she is not trying to hide them beneath her lengthy skirts and conservative shirts but she will NEVER dress for the eyes of a man ever again
She dresses for herself and herself only
And herself happens to love the soft security of her favourite sweater
Nicky Hemmick is never going to be comfortable in a therapist’s office
As much as he appreciates Betsy and all that she has done for Andrew, he will forever recognize and empathise with the hunted look on Neil’s face when they make their compulsory visits
The kind of trust needed for that situation was shattered a long time ago
Dan will always take the dominant roll in her relationships
Control in the bedroom is something (although they don’t know it) she shares with Andrew
A reiteration that her body is her own
That her actions are for her
That she is not a possession, an object, a passive thing to be pawwed at
(Matt thoroughly enjoys the handcuffs)
All of the foxes carry traces of what makes them foxes in the first place
